Dorian Spencer-Davies

Dorian Spencer Davies was born in Carmarthen, West Wales and spent his early years in the small West Wales village of Angle Bay. He later lived in Tenby and New Quay, two of the most picturesque coastal harbour towns in the country.

"I think growing up in this wonderful, unspoilt, and remote coastal Village has had a large influence on my work to this very day. I remember vividly the various boats in the Haven and being fascinated with everything to do with the sea".

Dorian attended Dyfed College of Art in 1979-1983 studying Natural History Illustration. During the eighties and nineties, Dorian embarked on a career with several London book publishers before returning to Wales in the late 1990's to develop his painting. Today he paints at his Pembrokeshire home, and is still greatly inspired by this coastline.

“I am fascinated by the light and atmosphere of the little coves and harbours found around this coastal area which have a romantic and timeless feel to them”.

Brimstone Design & Print Ltd are delighted to be the sole publisher of Dorian's work in the UK.

The Boathouse, home to famour Welsh writer Dylan Thomas
The Boathouse
The print above of the Boathouse made famous by Welsh writer Dylan Thomas is probably one of the most popular prints by Dorian-Spencer Davies. Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea but his family originated from Carrmarthenshire where much of his inspiration for writing came. Dylan Thomas lived at the Boathouse for the last four years of his life and it was here during this time that many of his major pieces of work were written, including Under Milk Wood. The Boathouse is now a heritage center containing original furnishings and memorabilia, viewing platform and terrace.
